If you’ve ever played hopscotch, you’d get my life’s metaphor. I hop, skip, and jump from one project to the next, always eager to land on the next best square.
But there’s a catch. Instead of enjoying the game, I’ve often felt trapped in a never-ending cycle of restless flitting. This month, however, I took on a challenge: Could I stick to a single project for 30 days without letting my wandering mind take the best of me?

The 30-Day Flit Rule

My solution was the “30-Day Flit”. The principle is deceptively simple. Commit to a project for 30 days. No more, no less. The finite timeframe keeps the dread of permanence at bay, while still offering a substantial period to make meaningful progress. Month one? I embarked on selling mockup photos on Etsy. Month two might be reserved for KDP books or tantalizing printables. The horizon is vast and varied.

The 30-Day Reality

As of today, I’ve hit day 18. Sounds like a milestone, right? Yet, the journey has been a mental tug-of-war. With 111 products and 24 sales in 18 days, which might sound reasonable, the reality is a far cry from what I envisioned, especially given the price point. My innate desire to flit is getting stronger by the day, beckoning me to the alluring lands of another project. And yet, the rules of the game are clear: 30 uninterrupted days.

To Document or Not To Document?

In this experiment, I’ve not just been working; I’ve been chronicling my daily experiences. Now, the question arises: How do I share this with the world? Do I unravel my 30-day diary in one sweeping, detailed Medium post, offering a comprehensive view into my month-long endeavor? Or do I serve it in daily bite-sized pieces, allowing readers to walk beside me, day by day, through the highs and lows?

Seeking the Silver Lining

Despite the internal battles and external challenges, this experiment is a testament to resilience and self-awareness. It’s easy to flit, but there’s a unique satisfaction in staying the course, even when it feels unbearable.

I invite you to join me in this journey. Let’s discover together if the 30-day rule is my antidote to perpetual flitting. And as for how I’ll present my chronicles, well, maybe you can share your thoughts. After all, every great story deserves an eager audience.
