I’m adding “Screw the rules and do what makes you happy!” to my phrases of 2024 shortlist. I need to pin it up on the wall and use it to remind myself whenever I’m feeling low or doubting myself. 💪
I’ve spent years trying to follow formulas. I’ve researched all the mom bloggers, all the affiliate bloggers, all the….well….ALL the flippin’ bloggers!!!! I have spent so much time thinking, researching and planning that I’ve had enough. Where has it got me? I’ll tell you, it’s got me to a place where I have a gazillion blogs, several etsy shops, numerous mailing lists and absolutely NO focus! And yes, all that strategising can be really exhausting. In fact sometimes it’s the very thing that takes the joy out of blogging. But you know what? Screw that too! 🤷♀️ The more I focus on what I love, the more I think my passion will shine through in my writing, and that’s what I’m hoping people will connect with.
I’m no longer going to write with SEO in mind. I’m not going to think too far ahead. I’m not going to plan my posts so that I can fill them with affiliate links and all that rubbish. No more! I’m just going to waffle about stuff, document ideas etc but you will get the raw version. You will get the unedited version of me and also my love of emojis! I like them because they suit me, they are lazy. They are for people who can’t convey what they want in words. They go with all the exclamation marks that I also love to use. Do you know why? Because I’m not a professional writer!
And as for SEO and all that technical stuff, forget it! I’m just going to write from the heart, and no longer sweat the small stuff. The most successful bloggers are the ones who create great content and build a genuine connection with their readers, not the ones who spend hours agonising over every tiny detail. Well, that’s what I’m guessing. Usually I would now go and research that last thought but not this time. This time I’m going to let that little thought float off into cyberspace.
Instead of having many blogs and shops etc, I’m going to have one. This one. Flits and Giggles was created to showcase my flits and thats what it needs to do. Up until now, I’ve had the flit and instead of documenting it on here, I’ve gone off and done it instead. That has got me nowhere and totally defeated the object.
So, if like me you are spending all your time flitting about from blog to blog, then stop. Let your creativity and passion be your guide, and the rest will fall into place. 🎉
